    Description

A display piece from the hutch of my Great Aunt.
According to my research this dish, having only the identifying mark "Nippon" indicates it was made & imported between 1891 & 1921. After those years a law was passed requiring the dishware to instead be marked "Japan". Use of the word "Nippon" was forbidden from 1921 on.
This is back-stamped with both the word Nippon & Hand Painted. Those markings surround
a M symbol inside a wreath. The writing is in green. Indicated in pics.
There is gold edging around the pedestal base & this shows signs of rubbing off. The rubbing is fairly uniform clear around the pedestal base.
Exterior is solid white with the exception of the handles that are gold. There is very slight loss of gold on 1 of the gold handles.
Interior is decorated around the entire edge in a scenic pattern on one side of the bowl which then gradually gets more colorful with tones of pinks, yellows & plum incorporating in handpainted fruits such as rasberry, pear & plum.
On the interior bowl bottom are raised elements fused into the bowl & they feel textured. Condition of the decoration is not perfect. It appears like small flowers in pink with green edging against a white background. On a few of the flowers the pink raised pieces are missing, the raised green edging however still remains. This is not particularly noticeable but can be seen on close examination as not being perfect. Other than this area the bowl has no imperfections, cracks or chips in the porcelain.
It measures 7" across top & stands 3-1/4" high.
    A beautiful piece!
    Smoke free environment.
