Description
Maker: This beautiful hand-painted condensed milk jar or holder with its lid is by the renowned Japanese maker Morimura Nippon, precursor to the equally renowned Noritake.
Design
: Moriumra Nippon is justifiably famous for its high quality and this jar is no exception: it is classically designed, rich in detail and superbly crafted, featuring beautifully painted pink cabbage roses against a classic Nippon orange waterside scene. Both pieces have a rich band of gold-trimmed cobalt blue.
Age
: The green wreath mark with M (for the Morimura brothers, who founded the company around 1876) on the base dates its production to between 1911 and 1921.
Condition
: Despite its age, the jar is in excellent condition with no chips, nicks, scratches, repairs, crazing or discoloration. There is wear to all three handles; it's visible in the photos.
Size
: The jar is 3 1/2 inches wide at the opening and 5 5/8 inches wide measured between the far ends of the handles. It's 3 7/8 inches tall without the lid, which adds about 1 1/4 inches.
Please check all the photos very carefully – they are an important part of the description.
