    Description

Presented is a 19th century sterling silver and glass sugar pot. The sugar pot rests in a silver stand, crafted with a golf theme.
The glass pot is round and lidded. The lid features a small cut-out for a silver spoon, included, to rest when not in use. The stand has a hallmarked handle, for easy transportation to and around the dinner table. The base of the stand is accented with four golf clubs, which serve as feet for the stand base. The spoon is engraved with golf event details and winning yardage.
In the late 19th century into the early 1900s, table settings were very elaborate. Fanciful sugar dishes, such as this one, were part of table displays, sitting next to elaborate gravy boats and decorative napkin rings, novelty toast racks, cruets, menu holders, knife rests, and even table bells. Sports themes such as golf, cricket, polo, and hunting were popular thematic styles.
